Iran discovers 248 hydrocarbon fields in sedimentary basins

By Fatih Karimov - Trend: Iran has discovered 178 oil and 70 gas fields in its sedimentary basins across the country, the Shana News agency quoted National Iranian Oil Company's Director for Exploration, Hormoz Qalavand, as saying.

Of the oilfields, 176 are at Zagross and the Persian Gulf basins and two are at the central basin. Of the gas fields, 65 are at Zagross and the Persian Gulf basins, two are at the central basin and three are at the Kope Dagh basin, he explained.

According to Qalavand, the Zagross basin includes Lorestan, Dezful, Fars and Bandar Abbas. The Persian Gulf basin includes the Strait of Hormuz and the southern, central, and northern parts of the Persian Gulf. The central basin includes Azerbaijan, Kerman, Mashhad and Isfahan.
In April, Qalavand said some 1.891 billion barrels of oil and 388 billion cubic feet of natural gas were discovered in the past Iranian calendar year which ended March 20.
Iran has the world's fourth largest reserves of recoverable oil after Venezuela, Saudi Arabia and Canada.

With 34 trillion cubic meters of natural gas reserves, Iran has the world's second largest natural gas reserves after Russia.
