The main trade oil and gas flows will transfer to the Asian region in the near future. This will affect the geopolitics of oil, executive director of the International Energy Agency (IEA) Maria van der Hoeven said on Friday while delivering the World Energy Outlook 2013 in Astana as part of her visit to Kazakhstan.

"North America's demand for crude oil imports will virtually disappear by 2035," she said. "This region will be a key exporter of oil products. At the same time, Asia will be the center of the world oil market. The large oil volumes will be supplied to the region through the important transport routes."

"Oil will be supplied to Asia not only from the Middle East, but from Russia, the Caspian littoral countries, Kazakhstan, Africa, Latin America and Canada," she added.

"As Kazakhstan is in the center of the Asian region, Kazakhstan will have the opportunities to increase oil and gas production from 2020 to 2035 after an increase in oil consumption in Asia," she added.

"The Caspian littoral countries, Russia and Kazakhstan will have to conduct the tough negotiations on pricing and pricing mechanism for oil and gas.

"The toughness is required in the negotiations as there will be many suppliers-competitors for the oil and gas sales market in the Asia- Pacific region," she said.
