Iran exports most of shrimp farmed in Golestan Province

BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 1. A total of 80 percent of shrimp farmed in Iran's Golestan Province, located in the northeastern part of the country, was exported in the last Iranian year (from March 21, 2023, through March 19, 2024), Director General of Iran's Fisheries Organization's department for Golestan Province, Esmaeil Jabbari said, Trend reports.

According to him, 3,700 tons of shrimp were grown in Iran's Golestan Province last year.

Jabbari noted that 2,960 tons of shrimp were exported to five countries. These countries are Afghanistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Russia, and Oman.

“In the coming years, a goal has been set to grow 18,000 tons of shrimp per year in the Golestan region,” he said.

The official added that 50 kilograms of caviar grown in the region were exported to three European countries last year.

To note, Iran grows and fishes an average of 60,000 tons of shrimp per year. About 60 percent of it is exported, and 40 percent is consumed domestically. Shrimp is mainly farmed and caught in Iran's provinces of Khuzestan, Sistan and Baluchestan, Hormuzgan, Bushehr, and Golestan.
