ASTANA, Kazakhstan, May 1. Kazakhstan plans to start building its own ferries in 2024, Trend reports.

According to the Concept for the Development of Kazakhstan's Transport and Logistics Potential to 2030, approximately ten new ships will be built, including four universal ferries, three dry cargo ships, and three tankers.

"Considering the needs for shipbuilding, it is intended to conduct a project to create our own shipbuilding plant on the Caspian shore," reads the Concept.

The Concept also notes that, as part of the joint venture Caspian Integrated Maritime Solutions Ltd with the participation of the national carrier - Kazmortransflot and the subsidiary company of ADP - International Maritime Investments Ltd, two oil tankers with a deadweight of 8,000 tons were purchased in 2023.

"When increasing the volume of oil transportation on the Aktau-Baku line, it is planned to build three tankers with a deadweight of 12,000 tons," reads the document.

Meanwhile, the volume of Kazakh oil transported for export from the port of Aktau reached 3.376 million tons from January through December 2023, a 1.108 million ton increase over the same period in 2022.

Subsequently, the hike in the volume of Kazakh oil transported for export from the port of Aktau is due to an increase in the volume of raw materials shipped in the direction of the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline, from 250,000 tons to 1.392 million tons, or 5.5 times more than the same period in 2022. Specifically, the Tengiz field shipped 1.057 million tons of oil.

In addition, in the reporting period, 1.984 million tons of oil were shipped from the port of Aktau towards the port of Makhachkala.
