Uzbekistan to modernize Bukhara oil refinery in three stages

The modernization and reconstruction of the Bukhara oil refinery of Uzbekneftegaz JSC in Uzbekistan is proposed to be carried out in three stages, Trend reports with reference to the press service of Uzbekneftegaz JSC.

In 2019, a project in the amount of $553 million on upgrading the facility commenced at the Bukhara oil refinery.

The first stage carried out this year includes the replacement of the catalyst for gas oil hydrotreatment with the latest generation catalyst, which will ensure the production of 20 percent of the total diesel fuel that meets the requirements of Euro 4.5 and 80 percent of the total diesel fuel that meets the requirements of Euro 3.

During the second stage in 2019-2022, the work will focus on the modernization and reconstruction of existing production lines with the installation of additional equipment aimed at improving product quality will be . As a result of the implementation of stage II, an increase in the production of high-octane gasoline AI-91, AI-93, AI-95 meeting the requirements of the Euro 3 and Euro 5 standards and the production of 100 percent diesel fuel according to the Euro 5 standard is to be ensured.

The third stage will be implemented in 2024-2025 to ensure deep processing of fuel oil. The construction of new plants within this stage will increase the depth of processing of raw materials from 79 percent to 95 percent and increase the yield of light petroleum products from 77 percent to 91 percent.

The construction of facilities of the II and III stages is provided without stopping the existing production.

Uzbekneftegaz notes that currently, the possibility of attracting direct investment by the company for the implementation of the project is being worked out.

The plant, founded in 1997, will be technologically upgraded for the first time in 22 years. After completion of the work, the refinery will be able to annually process 2.5 million tons of oil and gas condensate, due to which production of 1.2 million tons of Euro-5 gasoline, 200,000 tons of jet fuel, 750,000 tons of diesel fuel and 30,000 tons of fuel oil will be launched.

The Cooperation Agreement between Uzbekneftegaz and South Korean Engineering on the modernization and reconstruction of the Bukhara oil refinery was concluded on April 19, 2019, within the framework of the visit of the President of South Korea to Uzbekistan.
