BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 26
By Leman Zeynalova – Trend:
Organizing hydrocarbon supplies from Azerbaijan to Europe through Ukraine’s territory is one of the promising areas of cooperation between Azerbaijan and Ukraine, Sergey Shteluk, economic adviser at Ukrainian embassy in Baku, told Trend.
“Resource-rich Azerbaijan and Ukraine with ramified oil transportation infrastructure have the potential to implement and ensure effective operation of transport corridors for supplying light Caspian oil to consumers in Central and Eastern Europe,” said the adviser.
He believes that by implementing such oil transportation projects, Ukraine and Azerbaijan will contribute to diversification of crude supply routes to EU countries, thereby, resolving regional energy security issues.
Shteluk pointed out that since March 2020 Azerbaijani oil has been supplied through Ukraine on Odessa-Mozyr route for processing at Belarusian refineries. It is planned to transport around 1 million tons of hydrocarbons per year through this route, he added.
“Moreover, Ukrainian and Azerbaijani energy ministries are in active dialogue. Energy ministers of the two countries signed a memorandum of cooperation during the last meeting of the Ukrainian-Azerbaijani working group on cooperation in the energy sector,” he said.
