EPDK: Azerbaijan increased gas supplies to Turkey

Azerbaijan exported more than 9.5 billion cubic meters of gas to Turkey in 2019, Trend reports on July 23 citing a report of the Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EPDK).

According to EPDK, Azerbaijan's share in the total volume of gas supplies to Turkey last year amounted to 21.2 percent.

Meanwhile, the total volume of gas import to Turkey made up 45.2 billion cubic meters, decreasing by 11.3 percent compared to 2018.

At the same time, the export of Azerbaijani gas in 2019 was 27.3 percent more than in 2018 (7.5 billion cubic meters).

The share of Azerbaijani gas in total gas exports to Turkey in 2019 grew by 6.2 percent from the previous indicator.

In terms of gas supplies to Turkey in 2019, Azerbaijan ranked second following Russia, which accounted for 33.6 percent of all supplies, and Iran, which accounted for 17.1 percent of all supplies, ranked third.

According to the authority, in 2019, compared to 2008, Azerbaijan increased gas exports to Turkey by more than 2 times.

In general, from 2008 to 2019, Azerbaijan supplied over 67.8 billion cubic meters of gas to Turkey.

Turkey imports gas from Azerbaijan through the Southern Gas Corridor (Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum Gas Pipeline). In accordance with the contract, Turkey annually buys from Azerbaijan 6.6 billion cubic meters of gas produced at the Shah Deniz field.
