By Elnur Baghishov – Trend:
Rich gas production from the 3rd platform (13C) of the 13th phase of the Iran-Qatar joint South Pars gas field (called North Dome in Qatar) will begin soon, said Payam Motamed, operator of the South Pars project's 13th Phase, Trend reports citing Pars Oil and Gas Company’s official website.
Motamed emphasized that the daily gas production from the 13th phase will be 56 million cubic meters.
He added that the gas extracted from the 13C platform will be transported to the 13A platform via an 18-inch pipeline, and then transported to the 11th refinery via 100-km long 32-inch pipeline.
“In the initial stage, 400 million cubic meters (about 11.3 million cubic meters) of gas will be transported daily from the 13C platform, and 500 million cubic meters (about 14.1 million cubic meters) per day after production stabilizes,” he said.
The official stressed that the 11th refinery has processed more than 24 billion cubic meters of gas over the past two years. About 12 billion cubic meters were extracted and transported from the 13B and 13D platforms of 13th phase.
Given that the 13th phase of the South Pars gas field transports 56 million cubic meters of gas per day to the 11th refinery, the refinery can produce 50 million cubic meters of gas' 80,000 barrels of gas condensate' 2,900 tons of LPG gas' 2,750 tons of ethane and 400 tons of sulfur per day.
The South Pars gas field is a joint gas field of Iran and Qatar. The proven reserves of the South Pars Gas Field are estimated at 51 trillion cubic meters of gas, of which 36 trillion are extractable. At present, Iran's daily gas production from the South Pars gas field is more than 700 million cubic meters. Iran has so far spent $33 billion on projects related to the South Pars gas field.
Gas from Iran's South Pars gas field is transported to refineries in the Pars Special Energy Economic Zone in the port city of Asaluyeh in Iran's southern Bushehr province via a gas pipeline.
Around 75 percent of Iran's gas is supplied by this field.
