Iran generated more than 270 billion gigawatt-hours of electricity during the first nine months of the current Iranian year (March 20 through December 20, 2020), said, Ali Asghar Abdouli, Deputy Director of Thermal Power Plants Holding Company, Trend reports citing the Ministry of Energy of Iran.

According to the deputy director, 236 billion gigawatt-hours of electricity were generated by thermal power plants.

Abdouli added that more than 40 percent of Iran's thermal power plants have been repaired since September 5.

“In total, more than 40 trillion rials (about $952 million) will be spent on repair operations,” he said.

The deputy director noted that according to the decision, Iran's thermal power plants must supply 80 percent of Iran's electricity consumption. However, these power plants currently supply more than 87 percent.

Currently, the total generation of power plants in Iran, including thermal, water, alternative, small-scale, and nuclear power plants is 83,685 megawatts, where 81 percent of it is produced by TPPs.

At present, the combined cycle power plants account for 41.7 percent of the generation capacity of Iran's thermal power plants with 28,249 megawatts, the gas units account for 34.9 percent with 23,657 megawatts, and steam units account for 23.4 percent with 15,829 megawatts.
