The National Iranian Drilling Company (NIDC) drilled and improved 9 oil and gas wells in the 1st month of the current Iranian year (March 21 through April 20, 2021), said Ahmad Tamaddon, Deputy Director of the NIDC, Trend reports citing the company’s website.
According to him, of the drilled wells, 1 was a development well, 1 was a delineation, and 7 were repair wells.
The deputy director added that eight wells were drilled in the territory of the National Iranian South Oil Company (NISOC), and one in the territory of Iranian Offshore Oil Company (IOOC).
Tamaddon noted that a total of 6,720 meters were drilled during a month.
"Currently, the company's 23 drilling rigs are being relocated in oil zones," he said.
Reportedly, a total of 4,866 oil and gas wells have been drilled in Iran from the Islamic Revolution (in 1979) to the end of last Iranian year (March 20, 2021).
Of these wells, 2,467 units were development wells, 118 units - delineation well, 148 units - exploration well, and 2,133 units - repair wells.
There are currently 74 oil and 22 gas fields in Iran. So, 37 oil fields are operating in the territory of the National Iranian South Oil Company (NISOC), 14 fields – Iranian Central Oil Fields Company (ICOFC), 5 fields – Arvandan Oil and Gas Company (AOGC), and 18 oil fields – Iranian Offshore Oil Company (IOOC).
In addition, 5 gas fields are operating in the territory of the NISOC, 13 fields – the ICOFC, 1 field – Pars Oil and Gas Company (POGC) and 3 gas fields – the IOOC.
Iran’s total hydrocarbon reserves are estimated at 836 billion barrels. With available technology and equipment, Iran can extract 239 billion barrels. Thus, 29 percent of the country's hydrocarbon reserves are recoverable, while 71 percent remain underground.
