Ionian Adriatic Pipeline’s expected commissioning date revealed

BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 8

By Leman Zeynalova – Trend:

The Ionian Adriatic Pipeline (IAP), which envisages transportation of Azerbaijani gas to Balkan countries, is set to be commissioned in 2025, the European Commission told Trend.

“The Ionian-Adriatic Pipeline is not a Project of Common Interest, the European Commission therefore is not in possession of detailed information related to this project. They have, however, applied for PCI status, and from their application we can deduct that the project is currently undergoing the permitting process, and the expected commissioning date communicated by the promoter is 2025,” said the Commission.

Ionian Adriatic Pipeline can be connected to the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) to transport gas to many countries in South-East Europe.

The pipeline with total length of 516 kilometers will stretch from Albania through Montenegro, and Bosnia and Herzegovina, to split in Croatia.

The capacity of the pipeline will amount to five billion cubic meters of gas per year.

Azerbaijan started gas deliveries to Europe via the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP), the final leg of the Southern Gas Corridor, on December 31, 2020. TAP has the capacity to transport approximately 10 billion cubic meters of gas per annum (bcm/a) to several markets in Europe. The pipeline is also designed with the potential to expand its throughput capacity up to 20 bcm/a. TAP plays a significant role in boosting Europe’s energy security, supply diversification, as well as decarbonisation objectives.
