Iran’s SPGC shares data on production of its fifth refinery

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Dec. 5

By Elnur Baghishov – Trend:

The 5th gas refinery of the Iran’s South Pars Gas Company produced 12 billion cubic meters of methane gas, during the first eight months of the current Iranian year (March 21 through November 21, 2021), Head of the 5th Refinery of the SPGC, Mohammad Shafi Moazzeni said, Trend reports citing the company’s website.

According to him, the produced gas was accounted for about 7.4 percent of the country's total annual gas consumption.

"In addition, the 5th gas refinery has produced 333,000 tons of ethane, 83,000 tons of propane and 144,000 tons of butane within the mentioned period," Moazzeni added.

The official also noted that the refinery produced more than 15 million barrels of gas condensate, as well as 28,000 tons of sulfur over 8 months.

The 5th gas refinery of the South Pars Gas Company processes gas and gas condensate transported from 9th and 10th phases of the South Pars gas field. The refinery processes 56 million cubic meters of sweet gas, 80,000 barrels of gas condensate, 2,600 tons of ethane, 2,180 tons of propane, 1,250 tons of butane and 240 tons of sulfur per day.

The South Pars gas field (called North Dome in Qatar) is a joint gas field of Iran and Qatar. The proven reserves of the South Pars Gas Field are estimated at 51 trillion cubic meters of gas, of which 36 trillion are extractable. Iran's share in the field is 14 trillion cubic meters of gas and 18 billion barrels of gas condensate. Iran has so far spent $90 billion on projects of the South Pars gas field.

The phases of the South Pars gas field are located in an area of 3.7 km. Iran has extracted more than 1.8 trillion cubic meters of gas and 2.2 billion barrels of gas condensate worth $335 billion by the end of last Iranian year (March 20, 2021).
