BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 8

By Elnur Baghishov – Trend:

Azerbaijan and Iran conduct discussions on joint development of oil fields in the Caspian Sea, Azerbaijani Ambassador to Iran Ali Alizada told Trend.

According to the ambassador, there are some proposals from the Iranian side on the development of oil fields. Of course, these proposals are evaluated by our relevant authorities.

"If the proposals for the projects are updated, they will be discussed at the next meeting of the Azerbaijan-Iran Intergovernmental Joint Economic Commission to be held in Baku soon and the future prospects in this regard will be determined by our relevant authorities," he said.

Alizada also added that as is known, within the meeting of the presidents of Azerbaijan and Iran in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, a contract was signed on the swap of Turkmen gas to Azerbaijan via Iran.

“The project has been implemented since the beginning of this year. In this regard, there is a great cooperation in both bilateral and trilateral formats,” the ambassador noted.

On November 28, 2021, a tripartite contract on the swapping of 1.5-2 billion cubic meters of Turkmen gas to Azerbaijan through Iran per year was signed between Iran and Azerbaijan in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, on the sidelines of the 15th Summit of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO).

The implementation of the contract began on January 1, 2022.
