ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan, July 21. Turkmenistan exported about 2.73 billion cubic meters of natural gas to China in May this year, Trend reports.

The volume of Turkmen gas exports to China in the reporting period was 5 percent more than in the same months of last year.

China reached a historic high in natural gas imports in May 2023, bringing it to 13.51 billion cubic meters, thanks to rapid economic growth after the lifting of COVID-19 restrictions.

At the 'Central Asia - China' Summit held at the end of May, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov supported further implementation of new projects to increase the supply of Turkmen natural gas to China.

In turn, Chinese President Xi Jinping expressed support for the accelerated construction of the fourth line of the Turkmenistan-China gas pipeline, which will lead to an overall increase in the capacity of the pipeline line to 65 billion cubic meters of gas per year.
