BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 16. Baku-Supsa oil pipeline is used when there are nominations, Bakhtiyar Aslanbayli, bp Vice President for the Caspian region, Communications and External Affairs said in an exclusive interview with Trend.
"We suspended the Baku-Supsa pipeline system including the Supsa terminal from 15 March 2022. This was a precautionary measure to avoid a potential disruption to the pipeline operations in case of potential tanker unavailability. Since that time, the Baku-Supsa pipeline has only been used when we received nominations for tanker loading at Supsa. As part of the process, decisions with regard to every next month are taken in previous months based on the nominations we get from shippers. So, we use the pipeline when we get a nomination," noted Bakhtiyar Aslanbayli.
He said currently, there are no changes to this situation with no nominations received for November.
Baku-Supsa or Western Route Export Pipeline (WREP) transports oil from Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli (ACG) to Supsa on the Black Sea coast of Georgia.
The length of the pipeline is 837 kilometers. Its throughput capacity exceeds 7 million tons of oil per year (145,000 barrels per day). The pipeline operator is bp. The final point of oil transportation is the Black Sea port of Supsa in Georgia. Then the oil is transported by tankers to consumers in Europe.
