BAKU, Azerbaijan, December 27. Iran’s petrochemical industry is undergoing a major expansion, with the aim of increasing its production capacity to 200 million tons per year by 2033, according to Reza Nekuei, the head of Investment Affairs of Iran’s National Petrochemical Company (NPC), Trend reports.
This is an increase from the previous goal of 180 million tons per year by 2033.
Nekuei also stated that Iran expects to produce 141 million tons of petrochemical products in 2029.
He added that the country is currently building 125 facilities worth about $97 billion. After the mentioned facilities launched, the number of petrochemical facilities in the country will reach 179 by 2033.
The most important projects under construction are as follows:
- 20 facilities in Mahshahr County of Khuzestan Province, with an investment of $7.4 billion and an annual production potential of 5.9 million tons
- 22 facilities in Asaluyeh County of Bushehr province, with an investment of $22 billion and an annual production potential of about 28 million tons
- 14 facilities in Kangan, Siraf and Dayyer countries of Bushehr Province, with an investment of $11.5 billion and an annual production potential of about 14 million tons
- 11 facilities in Parsian County of Hormuzgan Province, with an investment of $11 billion and an annual production potential of about 14.5 million tons
- 3 facilities in Chabahar District of Sistan and Baluchistan Province, with an investment of about $5 billion and an annual production potential of 9.1 million tons
- 4 facilities on Qeshm Island, Hormozgan Province, with an investment of $5 billion and an annual production potential of approximately 10.5 million tons
Currently, Iran’s petrochemical production capacity is estimated at 92 million tons per year. By the end of the current Iranian year (March 19, 2024), it is expected to reach 95 million tons.
