Since its commissioning, STAR has made the following contributions by increasing the capacity usage to a level of 113 percent:
- Provide seamless raw material to Petkim
- Ensure local market needs are supplied effectively
-To maximize SOCAR's competitive power in the Turkish and world markets with the effect of raw material continuity and synergies
The STAR refinery, with an investment cost of $6.3 billion, commenced operations in October 2018, with $3.3 billion of the project's expenses financed through loans.
SOCAR Türkiye plans to temporarily suspend STAR refinery operations for maintenance in 2024, marking the first shutdown since its commissioning. Planned repairs aim to extend the interval between shutdowns to five years, potentially saving up to $40 million.
