BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 6. Iran has inaugurated the pipeline for the onshore transportation of gas produced from the 16th phase of Iran-Qatar joint South Pars gas field (called North Dome in Qatar), Trend reports.
A ceremony was held on February 6 in Iran’s south-western province of Khuzestan to mark the occasion. The event was attended by Iran’s Oil Minister Javad Owji and other officials.
The new pipeline, which stretches for 115 km, will enable the daily production of 28 million cubic meters of gas from the 16th phase of the South Pars gas field. The gas will be delivered to the South Pars Gas Company of Iran.
The pipeline was built by the Mahshahr Pipeline Company and the Iranian Offshore Engineering and Construction Company, with a total cost of 167.3 million euros.
Iran shares the ownership of the South Pars gas field with Qatar. Iran's share of the field stands at about 33 percent. The country has been developing the field since 2002, investing a total of about $90 billion in its development. Iran's share of the field is divided into 24 phases, each of which is developed separately. Iran is developing its share of the field through its domestic workforce, while Qatar's part is mostly handled by foreign companies.
The proven reserves of the South Pars Gas Field are estimated at 51 trillion cubic meters of gas, of which 36 trillion are extractable. Iran's share in the field is 14 trillion cubic meters of gas and 18 billion barrels of gas condensate.
