Negotiations on prices of Azeri energy selling to Russia to continue during Jan

The negotiations on the prices of the Azerbaijani energy selling to Russia will continue during January, the press service of Azerenerji JSC told Trend.

According to Marlen Asgarov, the vice-President of the Company, the meetings with the Russian partners held in 2005 were not effective. Azerbaijan concluded agreement with the Russian Electric Energy Corp. of Development of Single Energy Systems (RAO EES). The document envisages purchase of the energy at 3,636 cents per KW/Hour that is lower than the price proposed by Russia in the period from 1 January to 30 November 2006. Besides, the agreement on sale of the Azerbaijani energy to RAO EES at 1.55 cents per KW/Hour till 31 January 2006 was acknowledged by other document. The tariffs for next periods and exact volumes of supplies in the both directions are subject at the current negotiations. Azerenerji JSC purchases from Russia around 3bn KW/Hour and sale 1bn KW/Hour.

According to Asgarov, Azerbaijan receives 200-230MW Russian energy, particularly, in rush-hours. At present Azerbaijan and Russia are equally interested in the partnership, he said. Asgarov underlined that Russian energy supplies to Azerbaijan made up only from 3% to 4% of the total consumption thought the country.
