Azerbaijan, Baku /corr. Trend A.Badalova / The Chief Analyst at Alfa Bank electric power station, Alexander Kornilov, considers it possible to construct an atomic power station in Azerbaijan.
"Construction of an atomic electric power station will make Azerbaijan's economy more vulnerable," Kornilov said.
Azerbaijan made the decision to construct a nuclear reactor on 24 August, Adil Garibov, the Director of the Institute of Radiation Problems of the National Academy of Sciences, said.
In March the Government received a package of proposals on the construction of a Nuclear Power Station. These proposals recommended increasing the capacity of the NPS to 1,500 MW. They suggested Navaivillage as the site for the construction of the NPS. Construction of the NPS in this place was planned even from the Soviet period.
According to various assessments, the construction of the station may total $2-3bln.
Electricity in Azerbaijan is produced by Azerenergy JSC. Electricity demand is partially from imports. Wind electric power stations are expected to be constructed in Azerbaijan in the near future.
