Japanese Sumitomo, Uzbek Bank sign $100M agreement

An agreement on cooperation in the amount of $100 million was signed between Uzbekistan’s Uzpromstroybank and Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation in Tokyo (Japan) during a business forum of business circles of Uzbekistan and Japan dedicated to the state visit of Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Japan, Trend reports citing the Uzbek media.

This agreement provides for the development of interbank cooperation in such areas as trade finance, supply chain financing, treasury operations, as well as financing projects involving the use of energy-efficient technologies.

The financing line of the Japanese bank will allow Uzpromstroybank to expand the resource base for financing projects involving the import of technological equipment and services from Japan and other countries. The predominant side of this cooperation is the provision by the Japanese bank of resources for pre-shipment financing of the export of goods and services of Uzpromstroybank customers.

Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation, and its group of companies provide a wide range of financial services both in Japan and abroad. The scope of this banking corporation covers corporate and retail banking services, services in the international capital markets, venture capital and securities.

Headquartered in Chiyoda, Tokyo, it also has 72 branches in 38 countries. The corporation has about 70,000 employees.

At the end of fiscal year 2018, the bank reported that its total assets amounted to $1.8 trillion, and total revenue amounted to $7.1 billion.
