Central Bank of Iran shares data on exchange of bank checks countrywide

About 6.5 million bank checks worth about 2.58 quadrillion rials (about $61.5 billion) were exchanged in Iran in the 9th month of the current Iranian year (November 22 through December 21, 2021), Trend reports via the report of the Central Bank of Iran (CBI).

According to the statistics, the exchanged checks increased by 3.1 percent in value - UNCLEAR, while decreased by 7.5 percent in number, compared to the 8th month of the current Iranian year (October 23 through November 21, 2021).

"The checks exchanged in the 9th month were mainly registered in Iran’s Tehran Province (30.9 percent in number, 51.1 percent in value), Isfahan Province (10.7 percent in number,6.7 percent in terms of value), Razavi Khorasan Province (7.6 percent in number, 5.3 percent in value)," the statistics said.

According to the statistics, 6 million checks worth 2.32 quadrillion rials (about $55.4 billion) were received in Iran in the 9th month. This is an increase of 5.8 percent in value, while a decrease of 6.9 percent in number, compared to the 8th month.

The CBI noted that over 544,000 checks worth 255 trillion rials (about $6.07 billion) bounced in the 9th month. The bounced checks decreased by 16.3 percent in value, and 13.6 percent in volume, compared to the 8th month.

The reason for the bounce of checks was the lack of available funds. Thus, 525,000 checks worth 244 trillion rials (about $5.8 billion) bounced for these reasons in the 9th month.
