Turkmenistan sees increase in number of bank cards issued

ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan, August 25. The number of bank cards issued in Turkmenistan by the beginning of August this year reached 5.35 million, showing a slight increase compared to the initial July figure of 5.33 million, Trend reports.

According to the Central Bank of Turkmenistan, the capital city of the country, Ashgabat, holds the highest count of issued cards, totaling 1.83 million, with Mary (954,611 cards) and the Lebap (877,442 cards) regions following closely behind.

Dayhanbank State Commercial Bank takes the lead with 1.89 million cards issued, trailed by Turkmenistan State Commercial Bank with a count exceeding 1.04 million cards, and Halkbank Joint-Stock Commercial Bank with 624,348 cards.

Moreover, over the past four years, the volume of issued bank cards in Turkmenistan has doubled.

The total count of bank cards issued in Turkmenistan reached 5.17 million at the end of 2022, which indicates an increase of 8.3 percent compared to the end of 2021 of 4.77 million cards.

The financial sector in Turkmenistan is undergoing consistent expansion, marked by the implementation of mobile apps for a wide range of service and product payments, a significant increase in transaction activity, and the availability of payment alternatives via bank terminals.
