The Cybernetics Institute of the Azerbaijani National Academy of Sciences (ANAS) finished introducing an intellectual forecasting monitoring system this week at five inactive wells belonging to the State Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR).

According to Institute of Cybernetics Director Telman Aliyev, transducers have been installed at the wells, which are directly linked to the institute and provide real-time information about wind speed, pressure and temperature, and various noises taking place during the production process. The information is converted into signals, which are then transmitted via radio to a control center to prevent accidents, he said.

The monitoring system was tested during the production process, and is already being used at a compressor station at the Heydar Aliyev Oil Refinery, as well as at 190 wells belonging to Shirvan Oil, 10 wells belonging to the Karasu operating company, and several other wells belonging to Surakhani Oil, Binagadi Oil and Balakhanineft.

Earlier, Aliyev said a great number of noises and interferences are registered during drilling, which can be used as information carriers to predict accidents. The forecasting system determines micro-accidents at their initial stage of development, and also significantly reduces energy costs, which positively affects production costs.

The system will be presented at the Third International Conference on Cybernetics and Informatics Problems on Sept. 6-8 in Baku.
