Uzbekistan and Ukraine can resume air traffic in 2019, the Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine said in its statement referring to the talks held during the visit of the Ukrainian delegation headed by Deputy Minister Viktor Dovgan.

“Negotiations were held with the State Inspectorate for Safety Supervision of Uzbekistan on resuming direct flights between Kiev and Tashkent from the Spring/Summer 2019 on the basis of the signed protocol between the aviation services of Ukraine and Uzbekistan,” the ministry noted.

It is planned that the flights will be carried out by the Ukraine International Airlines and Uzbekistan Airways.

Air communication between countries has been stopped in May 2015 on the initiative of the Uzbek side due to numerous problems. Initially, the airlines of the two countries carried out flights in two directions: Tashkent-Kiev (2 flights) and Tashkent-Simferopol (5 flights).

After the Crimea events in 2014, the Ukrainian side prohibited Uzbek planes from flying to Simferopol, considering the administration of the Crimean airport illegal. As for flights to Kiev, the situation has reached a deadlock because of the economic differences.
