TEHRAN, Iran, July 24

Trend:

Iran's 25 year agreement with China could possibly include investments in the railways, deputy head of Construction and Development of Transportation Infrastructure Company of Iran Abbas Khatibi told Trend.

"The Tehran – Qom – Isfahan railway is the only railway where Iran and China cooperation is currently ongoing," he said.

"Although there have been negotiations with China in past five years for investments in other projects. Good steps have been taken in some projects even some have led to agreements and many intense technical and financial meetings," he said.

"Gorgan – Mashhad railway and Tehran – Hamedan – Sanandaj railways were part of railway projects that expected China to invest into, but re-impose of sanctions against Iran has overshadowed these projects and the Chinese side has stopped the work and negotiations did not continue," he added.

"Naturally if there would be new conditions, the negotiations with China would resume," he said.

"In regards to the 25 year agreement between Iran and China, there is a possibility that China would invest in transportation infrastructure but nothing is certain yet. If the agreement is finalized, we can determine projects with cooperation of the Chinese side and resume negotiations," he said.

"This is logical, since time we spent so much energy on similar plans, it resulted in an agreement, so it could turn into a trade contract this time," Khatibi said.
