Being the most important transport and logistics link connecting not only the border states but also the countries of Europe and Asia, Turkmenistan makes a significant contribution to the development of mutually beneficial economic ties and an increase in the volume of transit cargo transportation, Permanent Secretariat of the TRACECA Intergovernmental Commission (IPC) told Trend.
According to TRACECA, the Caspian states, including Turkmenistan, are also actively working to increase the capacity of seaports, which provides the country with a high-quality transport connection that meets modern requirements.
"An example of this is Turkmenistan's Turkmenbashi International Seaport, which is a key link in the transport system of both the country and the region. The developed port infrastructure has become the engine for the growth of road and rail container transportation between Turkmenistan and the TRACECA countries," said Permanent Secretariat of TRACECA IPC, adding that in recent years, modern container service for the transportation of goods between the Caspian Sea has been launched in parallel.
"According to our estimates, the potential of the Caspian region is estimated at 700,000 containers per year, which can be transported in transit through the territories of the Caspian states. In this regard, we are deeply convinced that Turkmenistan's accession to the TRACECA Multilateral Agreement (MLA) will make it possible to realize the great economic potential even more effectively, will give an impetus to the development of the transport sector of the whole country, and will also ensure the consistent and active revival of the Great Silk Road," the Permanent Secretariat of TRACECA IPC concluded.
