Cargo transportation via Iran's Urmia International Airport increases

The volume of cargo transported through the Urmia International Airport in the West Azerbaijan Province (north-western Iran) increased by 43 percent, during the first seven months of the current Iranian year (March 21 through October 22, 2021), compared to the same period last Iranian year, as was reflected in the statistics of Iran Airports and Air Navigation Company (IAC), Trend reports.

According to the statistics, a total of 1,545 tons of cargo were transported via the airport in 7 months. Meanwhile, in the same period last Iranian year, the figure stood at 961.

Within 7 months, 2,070 flights were carried out through the Urmia International Airport, which is an increase of 21 percent, compared to the same period last Iranian year. Thus, in the same period last Iranian year, 1,711 flights had been carried out via the airport.

“In addition, 170,009 passengers were transported via the Urmia International Airport over the reporting period. Passengers transportation increased by 11 percent, compared to the same period last Iranian year. So, the figure amounted to 152,693 in the same period last Iranian year,” the statistics said.

As reported, Iran's Urmia International Airport is located on 343 hectares of land.
