BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 1. Secretary General of the Permanent Secretariat of the Intergovernmental Commission (PS IGC) TRACECA Asset Assavbayev commented on the possible inclusion of the Zangazur corridor in the Transport Corridor Europe Caucasus Asia (TRACECA), Trend reports.
According to him, the Zangazur corridor plays an essential role in connecting Azerbaijan with Nakhchivan, as well as provides access to Turkey and other countries. Its inclusion into TRACECA will allow to create good conditions for international transit traffic in the future. This issue is within the competence of the Intergovernmental Committee (IGC), which serves to perform all necessary procedures.
Asavbayev stressed that the Permanent Secretariat (PS) of TRACECA welcomed all economic and transport links in the region, as well as the development of some routes.
"All the developments provides for diversifying transport routes. In our opinion, the early unblocking of transport communications will increase the throughput of the region and allow the countries to benefit from attracting certain transit cargoes. The issues of opening this corridor derive from the political framework. It is necessary to resolve issues concerning the corridor's throughput, checkpoints, the required investment volume and a number of other aspects that are important for the Zangazur corridor' stable functioning," said the secretary general.
