BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 16. Iran is conducting talks with a Chinese company to build a new terminal at Imam Khomeini International Airport in Tehran Province, head of the airport Saeed Chalandari told ISNA, Trend reports.

According to him, so far, the talks are going well. According to the preliminary agreement reached, the Iranian Ministry of Roads and Urban Development will pay 2.5-3 billion euros in cash or barter to the Chinese side.

Chalandari added that the talks are hoped to be completed by the end of the current Iranian year (March 20, 2023), and will result in the signing of the final contract.

"The new terminal of Imam Khomeini International Airport will be located on an area of 410,000 square meters. It is planned to put this terminal into operation by the end of the current Iranian government (which has been in power since August 2021). The launch of the mentioned terminal will allow increasing passenger transportation to 25 million annually," the official noted.

In total, more than 5.3 million passengers were transported through Iran's Imam Khomeini International Airport during the first nine months of the current Iranian year (March 21 through December 21, 2022). Of this, 2.62 million passengers entered Iran, while 2.69 million passengers left Iran.
