BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 13. Freight transportation through railways in Iran amounted to 4 million tons for the 1st month of the current Iranian year (March 21 through April 20, 2023), Trend reports.
According to the report, when comparing freight traffic via railways for the 1st month during the last 10 years, the highest freight traffic - 4.3 million tons was recorded 3 years ago (March 20 through April 19, 2020).
Meanwhile, cargo transit through Iranian railways stood at 136,000 tons in the 1st month of the current Iranian year.
The data for the cargo transit via Iranian railways in the first month of the last 10 years shows that the largest cargo transit - 162,000 tons was recorded 2 years ago (March 21 through April 20, 2021).
At the same time, 2.5 million passengers were transported through Iranian railways during the first month of the current Iranian year. This is 19 percent more than the same month in the last Iranian year.
Currently, 978 locomotives, 29,305 freight wagons and 2,153 passenger wagons are in operation on Iran's railways.
