BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 6. Iran plans to open 32 kilometers of freeways, some parts of which are in use, by the end of this Iranian year (March 19, 2024), Deputy Director of the Construction and Development of Transportation Infrastructures Company (CDTIC), Mahmoud Mollah Zeinal said, Trend reports.
The deputy stated that 24 kilometers of the mentioned 32 kilometers account for the Tabriz-Marand freeway. He added that about 3 trillion rials (about $71.4 million) is needed to open this highway, and if the funds are provided, it will be ready for use by the end of the year.
The 64-km Tabriz-Marand freeway is part of the 253-km Tabriz-Marand-Bazergan freeway. Some 13 kilometers of this freeway have been put into use, and 51 kilometers are planned to be put into use by the end of this year. So far, 4.2 trillion rials (about $100 million) has been allocated for the Tabriz-Marand freeway.
Meanwhile, the remaining 8 km is the Manjil-Rudbar part of Iran's Rasht-Qazvin freeway. This road is expected to be put into use at the beginning of the 12th month (February 20 through March 19, 2024).
The length of the Qazvin-Rasht freeway in Iran is 165 kilometers. The foundation of this freeway was laid in 2001. Except for the Manjil-Rudbar part, it was launched in 2009 and cost 4 trillion rials (about $95.2 million).
In 2011, the foundation of the Manjil-Rudbar part was laid and it was planned to spend 3.1 trillion rials (about $73.8 million). In total, 17.5 trillion rials (about $417 million) has been spent on this highway so far.
