BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 3. Baku Shipyard (BSY) has orders for the construction of ships until 2030 and cannot accept additional orders, including those from the Russian Federation, first deputy chairman of the Committee for Industrial Policy, Innovations, and Trade of St. Petersburg Alexander Sitov exclusively told Trend.

"BSY now has orders "under the cap," including tankers and river-sea vessels. The capacity of this Baku shipyard is fully loaded; all shipyards are busy," he said.

According to Sitov, they are also currently fully occupied with orders from the shipyard of the United Shipbuilding Company of the Russian Federation (head office in St. Petersburg), which has pledged to implement the Russian government's plan to build more than 1,700 river and sea vessels by 2037 (the plan was discussed at the end of March 2024).

"We discussed in Baku concerning shipbuilding the prospects of the industry and personnel development. So far, there is no talk of accepting orders for shipbuilding, as both in Baku and St. Petersburg, the capacities of shipbuilding enterprises are occupied," Sitov noted.

To note, the BSY has been in operation for more than 10 years and was built at a cost of nearly $500 million through the efforts of SOCAR (65 percent share in construction), Azerbaijan Investment Company (25 percent), and Keppel Offshore & Marine Company (10 percent).

The production capacity of Baku Shipyard is 25,000 tons of steel structures per year. The total area of the enterprise is 620,000 square meters.

The plant carries out ship repair in addition to ship construction, and more than 2,000 specialists work there.
