BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 18. The Permanent Secretariat (PS) of the international transport program TRACECA (Transport Corridor Europe-South Caucasus-Central Asia) awaits clarification of Turkmenistan's position on the readiness of this country to sign several documents related to the official accession to TRACECA, the Permanent Secretariat of TRACECA said, Trend reports.
"This week, Secretary General of the TRACECA Permanent Secretariat Aset Asavbayev discussed with the head of the Agency for Transport and Communications under the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan Mammetkhan Chakiyev the advancement of the issue of the country's official accession to the organization," the PS information noted.
Meanwhile, Turkmenistan announced its accession to the organization at the conference on the development of the TRACECA corridor in autumn 2023.
"Turkmenistan should sign the agreement 'On a single transit permit', the agreement 'On the development of multimodal transportation', join the 'Multilateral Permit System', and solve several other procedural issues," the report of TRACECA explains.
Chakiyev voiced his support for the promotion of initiatives in this international program.
To note, TRACECA was initiated in 1993 by the EU. Its participants are from 14 countries.
A series of large-scale activities are expected from May through June to develop this transport corridor for 2024–26 and in the long term. In 2024, TRACECA will be chaired by Iran.
