The World Bank (WB) has offered Kazakhstan a phased transition of the sewage treatment system to market financing, Trend reports citing the Kazakh media.

In response, Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Askar Mamin wrote: At present, Kazakhstan’s Government is taking systemic measures for the construction and reconstruction of the sewage treatment system to increase the coverage of the city's population with wastewater treatment from 74.9 to 100 percent in 2025.

According to Mamin, in order to prepare for the implementation of projects, the current state of the housing and communal services sector has been analyzed.

“The international experience of water supply and sewerage management has been studied. The WB proposes a strategy for adopting reforms and staged transition to market financing through optimizing the costs of water utilities, raising tariffs, and attracting private investment,” the PM noted.

Mamin also said that this strategy is being implemented within a public-private partnership with the involvement of private investors.
