Kazakhstan expanding its Almaty Airport in co-op with Turkish TAV Airports Holding

BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 4. The participation of Turkish TAV Airports Holding in implementation of a major infrastructure project for construction of a new international terminal in Almaty Airport, is of great importance, Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Alikhan Smailov said, Trend reports via the PM's office.

He made the remark at the meeting with CEO of Turkish TAV Airports Holding, Serkan Kaptan.

"The Almaty airport is one of the largest in Central Asia and has strategic importance. We expect that the construction of the new terminal will significantly increase passenger traffic, expand the number of flight destinations, and provide residents and guests of the metropolis with a high level of comfort," the PM noted.

In turn, Serkan Kaptan spoke about the company's current activities in Kazakhstan and outlined plans to participate in other projects in the country.

"Almaty Airport is one of the most important projects for us since it is located in the heart of Central Asia and plays an important role both for the city and for the whole of Kazakhstan. Therefore, we strive to develop it as soon as possible. We hope that the new terminal will be put into operation next year," he said.

Additionally, during the meeting, the Kazakh PM noted that Türkiye is one of the priority trade, economic, and investment partners of Kazakhstan, including in the transport industry.

"We pay great attention to improving the transport and logistics potential of the country. Today, the government faces the task of strengthening the role of Kazakhstan as a reliable continental transit hub," he said.
