BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 22. Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan are discussing prospects for the simplification of customs procedures, Trend reports.
According to Uzbekistan's customs committee, this was noted during the bilateral meeting of representatives of the customs services of Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan.
The meeting focused on streamlining transit procedures, preventing vehicle congestion at the border, improving customs declaration processes, and enhancing goods monitoring. Furthermore, valuable insights were exchanged regarding the digitization of customs operations.
As a result of the meeting, agreements were reached to intensify efforts in automating customs procedures, mutually recognizing customs control results, and implementing the "One-Stop" project at the Uzbek-Kazakhstan state border. These measures aim to expedite and simplify cross-border trade between the two countries.
In addition, both parties have commenced preparations for a project involving the development of an international document to introduce a paperless digital transit ecosystem for countries in Central Asia and the Caspian region.
Meanwhile, the trade turnover between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan increased by 7 percent year-on-year from January through April 2023 and reached $1.5 billion ($1.4 billion over the same period of 2022).
