BAKU, Azerbaijan, December 28. Inter RAO, Russia's electricity and thermal energy producer, confirms the signing of an agreement between Inter RAO-Export and Kazakhstan's National Welfare Fund Samruk-Kazyna for the construction of three coal-fired thermal power plants in Kazakhstan, a source at the company told Trend.
The total capacity of the Kokshetau TPP, Semey TPP, and Ust-Kamenogorsk TPP will be 1 GW, the company said.
"Inter RAO-Export will act as an EPCM (Engineering Procurement and Construction Management) contractor. The company will assist the Kazakh customer in attracting commercial debt financing for the implementation of projects," the source noted.
The company rep pointed out that other details of the agreement will be determined after the completion of the design phase.
On December 26, Samruk-Kazyna JSC and Inter RAO-Export signed a cooperation agreement on projects for the construction of three thermal power plants in the cities of Kokshetau, Semey, and Ust-Kamenogorsk.
On November 13, the energy ministers of Kazakhstan and Russia Almassadam Satkaliyev and Nikolay Shulginov signed a memorandum of cooperation on projects for the construction of three thermal power plants in Kazakhstan.
It is proposed to construct a 240 MW thermal power plant in Kokshetau by 2027. It is also proposed to construct a 360 MW thermal power plant near Semey. The development of a thermal power plant in Ust-Kamenogorsk is scheduled until 2035, however its capacity yet is uncertain.
The TPP with Kokshetau is already in place. The Kokshetau TPP will go into effect next year.
The feasibility study will be developed for the construction of thermal power plants in Semey and Ust-Kamenogorsk.
