ASTANA, Kazakhstan, March 1. About 160,600 transactions worth 52.5 billion tenge (about $116 million) were sent from Kazakhstan abroad through international money transfer systems in January 2024, Trend reports.
The data from the Central Bank of Kazakhstan shows that, compared to December 2023, the number of sent remittances decreased by 25.4 percent and the volume of transactions decreased by 27.9 percent.
In December, the largest number of transfers abroad were made through the Zolotaya Korona (142,490 transactions, or 41.8 billion tenge, or about $92 million), CONTACT (8,390 transactions, or 5.7 billion tenge, or about $12.6 million), Western Union (5,010 transactions, or 3.3 billion tenge, or about $7.4 million), Moneygram (1,330 transactions, or 1.06 billion tenge, or about $2.3 million), and others (3,400 transactions, or 420.2 million tenge, or about $929,000).
In terms of the volume of money sent from Kazakhstan abroad, the leaders are: Russia: 17.6 billion tenge or about $38.9 million (share 33.6 percent); Türkiye - 12.5 billion tenge or about $27.6 million (share 23.9 percent); and Uzbekistan: 8.8 billion tenge or about $19.4 million (share 16.8 percent).
In addition, the main share of transfers through international systems was carried out in US dollars (share of the total number of transfers: 29.6 percent, share of the total volume of transfers: 57.9 percent) and in Kazakhstani tenge (54.7 percent and 29.4 percent, respectively).
