The Kyrgyz Technical University will host a blood drive on Feb. 26, Health Ministry spokeswoman Elena Bayalinova said.

Bayalinova said the blood drive will be organized by the Health Care Ministry Blood Center and Gem Public Union.

The blood drive is supported by the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.

The campaign aims to promote blood donations and HIV prevention.

The campaign's slogan is "We Support Blood Donations."

"Unfortunately, blood donations have reduced in Kazakhstan in recent years. The number of donors has decreased 5 times in 15 years. There are around 30,000 blood donors in Kazakhstan at the moment. The figure was over 150,000 in 1990. We have 5 donors per 1,000 people in Kazakhstan. But the figure must be 40 donors per 1,000 people to meet the country's blood demand," Bayalinova said.
