Key contributors of FDI to Kyrgyzstan for 9M2023 named

BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, December 28. Foreign direct investment (FDI) into Kyrgyzstan totaled $654.621 million from January through September 2023, Jibek Abdullaeva, the Deputy Director of the National Agency for Investments under the President of Kyrgyzstan, said, Trend reports.

She explained that by the conclusion of the first nine months of 2023, China led the way with $157.8 million in FDI to Kyrgyzstan, followed by Russia with $131.7 million and Kazakhstan with $54.9 million.

"Foreign direct investment is mostly oriented toward industries such as mining, agriculture, light manufacturing, trade, telecommunications, and others.

She also stated that Türkiye was the leading source of FDI into Kyrgyzstan in 2022, with $341.6 million, followed by China with $326 million and Russia with $145.6 million.

Earlier this month, during a meeting of the Investment Council under the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan, Chairman Akylbek Japarov said that the first 100 days of 2024 will be dedicated to efforts aimed at attracting investments into the country.

Japarov urged for the focus on tangible ideas concerning the attraction of investments into Kyrgyzstan, emphasizing the importance of not just making amendments to existing regulatory frameworks.

He further added that in January of the coming year, the operations of all development funds of the country state development banks, and council members will be reviewed.
