BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 28. The spring sowing plan has been completed by 92 percent in Tajikistan’s Khatlon region as of April 17, Tajikistan’s President Emomali Rahmon said during his speech in the region on April 27, Trend reports via the press service of Tajik president.

Rahmon specified that in Khatlon spring planting was carried out on an area of 193,000 hectares; of them, cereals were sown on 18,000 hectares, crops - on 131,000, potatoes – on 6,000 hectares, and vegetables – on 19,200 hectares as of April 17.

As the Tajik president pointed out, an area of land of about 82,600 hectares in the region is at the disposal of the population; of them, 55,000 hectares are irrigated lands.

During his speech, Rahmon said that the Khatlon region, the largest in the country, has more agricultural opportunities than other regions of Tajikistan. He noted that there are great prospects in using underutilized agricultural lands in the region.

He added that the farmers of Khatlon should make more effort to ensure the country's food security, boost the domestic market and increase exports of products.

Meanwhile, agricultural products worth 1.1 billion somoni ($100 million) were produced in the Khatlon region from January through March 2023, which is 62.8 million somoni ($5.7 million) more than in the same period of 2022.
