DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, July 29. Dushanbe International Airport served 991,000 passengers from January through June 2023, Director of Tajikistan's Civil Aviation Agency Dilshod Safarzoda said, Trend reports.
According to him, this is an increase of 30 percent or 260,000 passengers compared to the same period of 2022.
The increased passenger traffic contributed to a rise in the airport's revenues. Over the six months, the revenue of Dushanbe International Airport surpassed 334.6 million somoni ($30.6 million), which is 1.5 million somoni ($137,599) more than in first half of 2022.
However, the airport's expenses also rose. They amounted to 382.7 million somoni ($35.1 million) from January through June 2023, increasing 26.3 percent or 79.7 million ($7.3 million) compared to the corresponding months of 2022.
The airport managed to achieve a financial profit of 20.6 million somoni ($1.8 million) during the reported period. Out of this profit, the airport made a contribution of 18.7 million somoni ($1.7 million) to the republic's budget.
Moreover, the growth in transportation was not limited to air travel. Tajikistan's road transport served a total of 431.015 million passengers during the first half of 2023, which is an increase of 8.7 percent compared to the corresponding months in 2022.
