Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov congratulated the Turkmen people on the annual holiday Galla Bayramy (harvest festival) dedicated to the success of the Turkmen grain growers and the end of the harvest season, the Turkmen government said on Saturday.
More than 1.600 million tons of wheat were produced in Turkmenistan this year.
According to the president, the success of the country's grain growers is a guarantee of independence, prosperity, abundance of food in the country.
"The opportunity of supplying wheat, grown by the country's grain growers, abroad, selling its surplus in the foreign markets, has become one of the most important actions to strengthen Turkmenistan's economic power," the president said.
Harvest Festival was established in 1998 after the country collected more than 1 million tons of wheat and Turkmenistan was able to fully provide itself with its own bread.
