Guaranteed purchases of wheat from local farmers in Iran disclosed

BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 13. A total of 280 trillion rials (about $6.7 billion) worth of guaranteed wheat was purchased from farmers in Iran from April 26 through May 13, Chairman of the National Foundation of Wheat Farmers of Iran Ataollah Hashemi said, Trend reports.

According to him, 23 trillion rials (about $548 million) of money spent on buying wheat has been paid to farmers.

Hashemi said wheat was mainly bought from farmers in Sistan and Baluchestan, Khuzestan, Persian, and Bushehr provinces.

The official noted that more than 14 million tons of wheat will be harvested in the country this year (from March 20, 2024 through March 20, 2025), with 11.5 million tons of guaranteed wheat expected to be purchased from farmers.

Meanwhile, Iran plans to harvest wheat from 6 million hectares this year, of which 2 million hectares are normal land and 4 million hectares are arable land.

To note, in the current Iranian year (from March 20, 2024 through March 20, 2025), 1 kg of wheat in Iran is purchased under the guarantee of the State Trading Company for 175,000–180,000 rials (about $4.17–$4.3).
