BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 13. The potential full expansion of the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) may contribute to the European Union's (EU) decarbonization goals, the head of external relations at TAP AG, Vugar Veysalov said during the Belgrad Energy Forum, Trend reports.
“TAP is committed to ensuring that the energy transition to a low-carbon future occurs in a sustainable manner. The potential full expansion of the Trans Adriatic Pipeline could help meet EU decarbonization goals by facilitating the transport of new volumes of hydrogen and other renewable gases in the future,” Veysalov said.
According to him, the TAP has become a critical energy infrastructure to bring gas to the EU from a new source and via an alternative route at a time of severe energy supply problems.
Veysalov believes that during Europe's transition to a low-carbon future, maintaining an alternative, secure, reliable, and affordable energy supply is imperative to remain competitive.
To note, commercial deliveries of Azerbaijani gas to the EU started on December 31, 2020.
TAP is the European segment of the Southern Gas Corridor that delivers Caspian gas to the EU via Türkiye.
Besides, TAP currently has a capacity of about 12 bcm of gas per year, but from January 1, 2026, it may increase to 14 bcm per year, and TAP AG has started to implement the relevant actions.
