BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 13. Saffron exports from Iran decreased by 15.7 percent in value terms in the last Iranian year (from March 21, 2023, through March 19, 2024) compared to the previous Iranian year (from March 21, 2022, through March 20, 2023), representative of the Central Union of Rural and Agricultural Cooperatives of Iran Rouhollah Latifi wrote on social network, Trend reports.
According to Latifi, saffron worth about $208 million was exported from Iran last year. Despite rising saffron prices in the world market and domestically, saffron exports from Iran continue to decline.
Last year, Iran shipped 221 tons of saffron to 55 nations, Latifi said. Iran shipped 67,100 tons to the UAE, 49,200 to China, 43,800 to Spain, 21,700 to Afghanistan, 5,770 to Qatar, 5,600 to Italy, 3,300 to Kuwait, 2,000 to Oman, 2,000 to Bahrain, and 2,430 to France.
Iran's Customs Administration reported non-oil exports of almost 136 million tons worth $49.3 billion last year. Iran's non-oil exports fell 8.87 percent in value and rose 9.82 percent in weight last year.
Moreover, in the past Iranian year, the country's exports of food and agricultural products amounted to 8.8 million tons worth $6.3 billion. Compared to the previous year, exports of food and agricultural products increased by 20.4 percent in value and 12.2 percent in weight.
