TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, May 13. Uzbekistan plans to increase coal production to 10 million tons by 2025, Trend reports.
This was announced during a presentation, during which Uzbekistan's President Shavkat Mirziyoyev was presented plans to increase coal production.
Uzbekistan plans to produce 8 million tons of coal this year, with 900,000 tons coming from entrepreneurs.
The country plans to open a coal preparation plant in Shargunkumir, JSC, with an annual capacity of 500,000 tons. In addition, Uzbekistan plans to launch production at the Surkhandarya, Kashkadarya, and Tashkent sites in 2025.
Uzbekistan's president gave instructions to responsible persons to implement international standards in the industry, improve coal quality, and accelerate investment projects.
Meanwhile, Uzbekistan produced 968,900 tons of coal from January through March 2024. The volume of coal production has decreased by 2 percent year over year (989,100 tons in January–March 2023).
At the same time, the country’s production of coal increased by 309,900 tons compared to the previous two months (659,000 tons in January–February 2024).
