By Huseyn Hasanov - Trend: Ashgabat will host a two-day meeting of the Turkmen-American Business Council today. The agenda includes further cooperation issues on a number of priority areas, the Turkmen government reported today.
The experts are expected to discuss developing the transport sector, communication and innovation in Turkmenistan.
According to the report, Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov stressed the constructive, traditionally friendly Turkmen-U.S relations.
At this stage, the countries have established business contacts for the supply of high performance agricultural equipment, upgrading the technical civil aviation fleet of Turkmenistan, and importing power equipment.
As for joint projects in the gas sector, this stage of cooperation should be mastered. The U.S. shows interest in such projects as the laying of gas pipelines from Turkmenistan to Europe via the Caspian Sea and to Pakistan and India via Afghanistan.
Moreover, negotiations are underway to develop hydrocarbon fields in Turkmenistan which ranks fourth amongst the largest natural gas reserves in the world. Ashgabat is to invite U.S. companies to develop the Turkmen shelf of the Caspian Sea.
