Uzbekistan taking measures to reduce import of raw material for wood processing

Uzbekistan approved the action plan for strengthening the raw material base and further development of the wood industry, Trend reports referring to Norma.uz information and legal portal.

According to the information, the Cabinet of Ministers adopted a resolution on measures to strengthen the raw material base and further development of the wood industry.

Thus, an action plan has been approved for strengthening the raw material base and further development of the wood industry in order to meet the needs of the furniture industry for raw materials, reduce their imports, and further develop wood production.

In addition, the resolution approved forecast indicators of planting of walnut, plane tree, ash, elm and other trees on lands that have ceased agricultural use, with a total area of 3,173 hectares in 2021-2022.

Predicted plantings of walnut, plane tree, ash, elm and other trees on foothill lands and hills with a total area of 1,327 hectares in 2021-2022, as well as seedling distribution plan for 2021-2022 for planting in the amount of 2,783 pieces, and other materials have also been approved.

Moreover, starting from March 10, 2021, the supply of the necessary seedlings for planting will begin, and by March 20, the average annual demand of the furniture industry for wood will be calculated, and measures to reduce its imports will be determined.

It is reported that a competition will also be announced for the development of innovative proposals for solving problems in the creation of plantations, the development of the furniture industry.

In addition, a list of furniture manufacturers using advanced technologies for processing raw materials with the required volumes of raw materials will be formed.
